How to choose the best stock auditing software for your hospitality business
The best stock auditing software is the system that helps your team produce reliable counts, investigate differences and take useful action. A feature list alone will not tell you whether it fits the way your hospitality business works.
This guide sets out the questions we recommend asking during a demonstration, including a demonstration of Nifty19.
Start with a complete stock period
Ask the supplier to follow one period from opening stock through deliveries, sales and movements to the closing count. Choose an example that resembles your operation: a pub cellar, a restaurant kitchen or a hotel with several outlets. Make sure you can follow how each activity contributes to the final result.
Check how the count works in practice
Ask how products, units and storage areas are organised. Can a team perform a focused line check between full counts? How do you review a product that has been counted differently? The counting process should be understandable to the people carrying it out, including occasional users.
Look beyond whether an EPOS logo is listed
Confirm the exact EPOS product and configuration supported. Ask what sales information is available, how it relates to recipes and stock products, and how missing or unmapped items are identified. A connection is useful when the information supports a reliable stock result.
Follow one variance back to its source
Ask to see a product difference investigated. Can you compare consumption with till sales and review relevant deliveries, transfers and adjustments? Check whether quantity, retail value and cost views help you answer different operational questions. A variance should lead to an investigation, not an automatic assumption of loss.
Test the controls your group needs
For several locations, ask how site access, central product information and reporting responsibilities are managed. Explain who counts, who reviews and who needs the final report. Ask the supplier to demonstrate those roles rather than relying on a general multi-site claim.
Compare the full proposal
Check the pricing unit, billing period, VAT, included functionality and any proposed implementation or support services. Establish what your team will need to do to maintain products, recipes and sales mappings. The right comparison includes the work needed to keep the information useful.
Ask how the product has developed
Look for evidence of continued development and ask how customer requests are considered. Nifty19 has been established since 2019 and has grown around its clients’ needs, with approximately 60% of features originating from direct end-user feedback.
A useful demonstration should answer a real question
Bring a stock-control problem you want to solve and ask the supplier to show the relevant workflow. That provides a clearer basis for choosing a platform than a dashboard tour alone.
